Finance Minister Arun Jaitely has proposed Rs 4,814 crore as part of budget allocation for government’s rural electrification programme Deen Daya Upadhyayal Gram Jyoti Yojana.
The minister also said the government was confident of achieving 100 per cent rural electrification by 2018.
“We are well on our way to achieving 100 per cent rural electrification by 1st May, 2018,” Jaitley said in his budget speech in Parliament today.
As per government data, till date out of 597,464 census villages, 591,707 villages – nearly 99 per cent have been electrified.
