Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that his government has set a target to provide electricity connection in 18,000 villages across the country in just 1,000 days.
He said he was appalled to see that even after 70 years of Independence, people were forced to lead the life of 18th century in the 21st century.
He also lauded the Jammu and Kashmir government for launching a solar energy campaign from Ladakh.
At an event to mark the 75th anniversary of the Quit India Movement at the birthplace of revolutionary leader Chandrashekhar Azad here, the Prime Minister recalled those who laid down their lives for the country and said that today people don’t have to die for the nation but have to work for its development. He called upon the people to take a pledge for taking the country forward and referred to the passage of the Bill on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Parliament in this regard.
