• Tripura-Mizoram gas pipeline crosses 23.5% milestone

The Tripura to Mizoram gas pipeline has reached 23.5 percent completion, marking steady progress in one of Northeast India’s most ambitious energy projects. So far, engineers have laid around 28 kilometers of the 119-kilometer route that connects Panisagar in Tripura with Sihhmui near Aizawl in Mizoram. The project forms part of the Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) initiative to improve the region’s energy infrastructure.

Officials say work is moving forward with steady momentum. The construction team plans to complete a larger stretch in the next few months as weather and terrain conditions improve. Out of the total route, 104 kilometers lie in Mizoram, while the rest is in Tripura. The project aims to ensure reliable access to clean energy across the two states and enhance regional connectivity.

The gas pipeline is an important step toward connecting the entire Northeast through the national gas grid. It supports India’s Hydrocarbon Vision 2030, which focuses on developing a cleaner, more efficient energy network in the region. Once complete, the pipeline will supply natural gas to homes, industries, and future CNG stations in Mizoram.

This new energy link will reduce dependence on conventional fuels such as coal, diesel, and LPG. Cleaner energy access will also lower carbon emissions and help improve air quality. For Tripura, which produces natural gas, the project opens new opportunities to export surplus fuel to neighboring states. It strengthens economic and industrial cooperation between the two states and sets an example for sustainable development.
