Conference on Civil Aviation Industry in India- Vision 2020

INTRODUCTION

airline

The civil aviation industry of India is witnessing phenomenal growth since last decade. It is currently 9th largest Civil Aviation Market with 85 international airlines connecting over 40 countries. Government of India with a vigorous growth strategy plans to invest $1.3 billion on non-metro projects by 2017 focussing on modernisation and upgradation. Government aims to take up the industry to the next level by 2020 with expected remarkable achievements like:

  • India to turn into the 3rd largest aviation market
  • The number of aircrafts to reach 800
  • The overall passenger traffic to increase to 450 million
  • 300 business jets, 300 small aircraft and 250 helicopters to be added the current fleet
  • Around 250 airports to be made operational where the impetus will be given on North Eastern region.
With passengers and aircraft fleet likely to double by 2020, the emphasis needs to be shifted to developing the strong domestic MRO industry, reducing the tax burden of the overtaxed industry especially central and state taxes on ATF and MRO, Service Tax on air tickets, high airport charges etc., focussing on the industry safety& Human resource development as the shortage of skilled labour is likely to affect the safety of the same.
Government has taken significant initiatives to incentivise the sector and encourage the private participation for the exponential growth like 49 % FDI, liberalisation in traffic rights to Indian carriers to fly to several new global destinations, direct import of ATF by Indian carriers, working under PPP/JV Model etc. Despite this, there are many masked situations that dishearten the investors.
To achieve the anticipated target, a 360 degree development is required in airports, air navigation, cargo, MRO, general aviation and human resource development. It is of paramount importance for the industry stakeholders to engage and collaborate with the policy makers to come up with efficient and rational decisions that will shape the future of Indian civil aviation industry.
Diligentia Services, through its Conference on Civil Aviation Industry in India- Vision 2020 which is scheduled to be held on 21st -22nd May 2015 in New Delhi, will deliberate on the above discussed opportunities and challenges of the sector.
