Can you ever imagine stepping out of your door without carrying your mobile phone? Am sure, you cannot. Nowadays we are all so used to our cell phones that it has become hard to picture a life without them. Who would have thought that this little invention by Martin Cooper just three – four decades back will creep into our lives in such a way that it would seem impossible to imagine our lives without them? Out of the many inventions that changed human lives completely, the invention of the mobile phone will certainly be attributed to be the most important one.
While its reach and penetration was limited in the beginning, it caught pace in the subsequent years, and now the situation has come to such a state when mobile phones are slated to outnumber humans. If reports are to be believed, mobile phones will outnumber the human population by the end of 2014, reaching a staggering 7.3 billion, a new study has said.
According to PTI, a study by the International Telecommunications Union concludes that the number of mobile phones will rise from 6 billion now to 7.3 billion in 2014, compared to the global population of 7 billion.
The number of cell phones in over 100 countries exceeds the population of these countries. Russia, with almost 250 million cell phone accounts, has 1.8 times as many cell phones as people, and Brazil, with 240 million accounts, has 1.2 times as many cell phones as people, the International Telecommunications Union study has found.
Well, going by the statistics, it seems that the mobile phone population will soon outdo human population on earth. Now this statistic only leaves us pondering with just one thought, will humans now be controlled by the devices? Any guesses?
