Introduction
India is already the third largest consumer of energy in the world. And is set to accelerate its transition towards cleaner energy sources as liquefied natural gas (LNG) is poised to play a greater role in its energy mix.
The gas sector is among the eight core industries in India and plays a critical role in the growth of our economy. India has set its sight on becoming energy independent by 2047 and achieving Net Zero by 2070 . Country's demand for gas is expected to almost double by 2030 to reach 115 BCM.
The Government of India has set an ambitious goal to increase the share of natural gas in the country’s energy mix from 6% to 15% by 2030. This target serves as a strong signal for potential and growth in the natural gas sector.
Besides Indian government has introduced several policies to cater to increasing demand for oil and gas in India. It has allowed 100 percent foreign direct investment (FDI) in several areas of the sector, including natural gas, petroleum products and refineries, among others.
